CASE STUDY #1 – Kevin James, Studio Executive

I started Metamotion for 3 reasons.

(1) It tweaked my athletic curiosity. I read about it years ago in a sports magazine, the trainer (Dorothy Storm) was well versed in the process, enthusiastic and I had never used a trainer to work on my form which is a significant foundation in sports in general.

(2) I was going thru a few personal issues, had lower back problems and stopped focusing on taking care of myself; if there was a bar I was the stool, If there was a drink, I was the glass. I was normally 165 pounds of lean mean fighting machine. But at the end of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009 I had ballooned to 198 and I was “moving on up”.

(3) The one on one training, for me, is essential. Training alone, I tend to lose form and cheat on working my body to it’s fullest potential. It’s easy when you don’t have a friend motivating you or spotting. With Ms. Storm, I could concentrate long enough for her to train me and break me of bad habits (posture and lifting technique). I want to be in better shape and Dorothy Storm through her knowledge of the Power of 10, Yoga and the body makeup was able to show me what I was doing wrong.

It did take a little while to buy into the new method because as a guy, testosterone (as if it were a tangible thing) wants you to FORCE and PUSH the weight up quickly. But with Metamotion lifting, as any legitimate weightlifter will tell you, is about FORM. After a couple of sessions of shouting and kicking (literally) to do it my way and get to the big weights quickly, my power has increased and there is a significant difference in my appearance. I’ve lost fat, built up muscle and lost 10 lbs of weight. I’ve been doing this since March of 2009 and co-workers have noticed the difference in my look and demeanor. No one believes that I just spend one day a week for half and hour getting the results I have.

It’s because of Dorothy’s training technique, extensive knowledge of the physiology and introduction to yoga stretching that have made this whole experience wonderful bearing the fruit of muscular results. With Aerobic exercising and proper eating in addition, anyone can have the same positive results. How many folks say, I don’t have time; I don’t like going to the gym? Metamotion provides the solution.

Gary Tucker
CASE STUDY #2 – Gary Tucker, CEO Pac Tech,
tennis player

It has now been a year since I began weekly half hour “super slow, good form” 30 min./week workouts with you. I thought I would like to share some thoughts and results.

Weight lost is 15 pounds (210 to 195) in the year without changing my eating patterns, but more impressive to me is a 4 inch loss from my waist (Size 40 to Size 36). I can now easily wear “large” sizes rather than the formerly mandatory XLs and 2XLs. (I am 6’2” tall.) My body fat level has fallen from 26% to 22%. (With a goal of 19%.)

The original motivation to begin exercising in 2009 was that the right shoulder was not gaining enough strength after rotator cuff surgery 9 months earlier in 2008. After retirement, I started my own business, and often spend 16 hours/day working it. I did have gym memberships, but not enough time to use them. Effective 30 min/week workouts were unbelievable to me.

Being an avid tennis player, I spend about 10 hours/week on the court every weekend, and I wanted to regain some pop (velocity) on my serve.

At 67 years of age, I was losing regularly to many much less experienced (and less accomplished) younger players in team tennis and in club leagues and tournaments. Lately, many of the 30 and 40 year old “kids” that I regularly play against are asking what is my improvement secret, and why are they now losing to me. Since I am not taking regular lessons or drills, I must attribute these improvements to increases in strength, balance, and endurance.

At a recent Senior USTA regional, it was obvious to me that many opponents were tiring late in our matches, while I still felt very energetic.

The leg, core, and ab exercises have made it possible for me to get to the ball earlier, with more time to set up before hitting the ball. Also, I am able to start, stop, and change direction much like I did 30 years ago.

The upper body exercises have improved my power to hit the ball, especially on the serve. (My first serve in now 10 mph faster than it was one year ago (85mph vs. 75mph) My goal is 95mph, and (with your help), I’m continuing to make (super) slow progress toward that and other target.

Thanks very much for introducing me to the program.

CASE STUDY #3 – Stephen J Smith, PsyD

I am a tennis professional and a psychologist.  My schedule keeps me very busy therefore it is important to me to maximize my time and maximize my results for time spent.  This is why I recommend Meta Motion.  More specifically, there are three aspects you must know.  First, I have never experienced a more time efficient method to train that maximizes strength.  Second, there is no way that you will not benefit from this method.  All you have to do is show up.  Trust me, it's true.  Lastly,  the work is very preventative--  you will gain core strength that your body absolutely needs.  Why?  Because in daily life we tend to use the same muscles because we do the same thing everyday, be it exercise or just living.  Meta Motion works core muscles that may or may not be used in your daily routines.  By strengthening these muscles you are less prome to injury.

Bottom line:  it's smart, simple and it works.

Alicia
CASE STUDY #4 – Alicia, accident survivor

I had an accident as a teenager which resulted in severe muscle damage to my mid/upper back. Growing and life exacerbated the damage, leaving me with constant moderate to severe pain, poor posture including an incipient hump, limited range of motion, and loss of sensation as a result of scar tissue. Over time I accepted that this was how life was going to be.

Like most people, my weight has gone up and down over the years, and my back does not enjoy bearing the weight of any extra pounds. For the most part, my weight is stable and within the normal range, and has been for several years; but even a couple of pounds has a noticeably negative effect on my back. In addition to managing my diet as best I can, I have exercised intermittently since my early twenties, combining a lot of walking with resistance training (alone and with personal trainers at different times). I have a tendency to overdo it, cause myself more pain, and take an enforced break. Although I tend to be very cautious, I have still ended up working (never for very long) with trainers who encourage speed over form, or who have ignored my history at my peril. I have always had problems building muscle, particularly any visible muscle definition.

As I entered my early/mid forties, I made a conscious effort to try to exercise in a way that would strengthen my back for the future, and slow down or stop further deterioration. I was not making huge progress on this journey, but I was taking steps and looking for a path, and a guide.

Enter MetaMotion (and Dorothy)

I saw MetaMotion’s ad in the Health edition of The Tolucan in June 2009. Conceptually, it was intriguing, particularly as it seemed to carry a lower risk of injury than most other workout programs because of using slower, more controlled movements.
I started working out with Dorothy in July 2009 (68 sessions ago, and counting). From the beginning, she has listened to me, and listened to my body. More impressively, she has taught me to listen to my body, something that I had thought that I was doing, without realizing how softly certain parts of my body were whispering.

Because of the scar tissue, most of my back (lower, mid and upper) had limited sensation, and limited blood flow. In my second session with Dorothy, I paused for a second because I thought that I was experiencing a precursor of pain in the area of the original injury. I quickly realized that it was not pain: I was feeling blood flow in the damaged area for the first time in close to thirty years.

Conceptually, the slow workouts at MetaMotion have surpassed all of my expectations. I have not experienced any injuries or setbacks since I started down this road. That is my longest injury free period since the original accident. I still see a deep tissue massage therapist from time to time, but I don’t scream any more. My back has gotten stronger. Amazingly, the incipient hump is slowly but surely flattening out. I have muscle definition. My range of motion has improved. I have little pain. I feel areas of my back that I have never felt before. My body speaks to me. Some might view the progress as slow: I do not. It took almost 30 years for my body to get messed up: visible progress in 16 months is amazing! MetaMotion has worked for me!

Dorothy is a phenomenal trainer. She listens to her clients. She pushes beyond what the client’s mind thinks is possible, but never crosses the threshold of what is impossible for the client’s body. She listens to the body, and coaxes the best from it. Most importantly, she views the client as a whole person, and trains them accordingly. She cares about her clients.

I cannot imagine missing my weekly MetaMotion workout, because success is the most addictive thing of all.
